The Autowbrake is a self-contained fully functional, electric brake control that mounts where it truly belongs - on the trailer.
With the Autowbrake, you can get emergency braking or general braking from your trailer brakes automatically. This means that, unlike time-delay controllers - which send the same amount of preset power to your trailer brakes every time - proportional controllers are able to adapt to every braking situation differently. As you approach your stop your trailer will gradually brake in the same manner as your tow vehicle. Just set the initial power level, and you're good to go.
Unlike other brake controllers, once the Autowbrake is mounted on your trailer and connected to your vehicle, there is no sync up necessary to the key fob.
When the Autowbrake senses another brake controller, the Autowbrake will go into sleep mode automatically.
The key fob is not essential to normal operation. The key fob is used for a pre-travel test and also to manually override the Autowbrake’s automatic braking functions to stop trailer sway conditions.

AUTOWBRAKE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
We recommend having a dealer or installation professional install your Autowbrake Trailer mounted electric brake controller. For those Do it yourselfers…
SELECT MOUNTING LOCATION
We recommend mounting close to the trailer junction box/ usually on the trailer frame, however other options are fine (ie: in cabinet, inside trailer etc.) Autowbrake can be mounted in any direction and any angle for ease of installation. Once you decide on the location it’s time to match up wiring.
Now familiarize yourself with your trailer’s wiring diagram. You will need to locate 5 wires. Check your trailer manufacturer’s operation manual
- Trailer Brake- Normally Blue
- Power- Normally Red or Black/ (Brown depending on next step installation using running light option for power)
- Ground- Normally White
- 2 brake wires (check trailer manual for brake wire colors)
- Match these wires with the wires on the brake controller. (Now you are ready to install)
- Connect all wiring (splice into harness directly if you are not able to get to a junction box or have a trailer with hard wiring harness only) We strongly recommend utilizing junction box direct for best use.
- If you cannot locate trailer schematics, turn on tow vehicle ignition and plug trailer wire harness into vehicle like you are ready to tow. Turn on vehicle hazard lights. Use voltmeter to locate brake light voltage.(voltage should increase and decrease n volt meter) and then determine 12 volt power source.(could be black or red in the junction box of the trailer)
Locating Brake Light Wires
Turn on tow vehicle ignition and plug trailer into vehicle just like you are ready to tow. Turn on vehicle hazard lights or have someone inside vehicle press and hold down the brake pedal. Use voltmeter to locate brake light voltage and connect brake wires (green and yellow) on the Autowbrake controller.
Test and locate the 12 volt power source (Red/Black wire, check trailer manual). Connect the Autowbrake power wire to this wire either at junction box as recommended or direct splice into trailer harness. Attach the other wires to their corresponding sources as recommended.
- Connect blue trailer wire to Autowbrake blue wire
- Connect red/black power wire to Autowbrake black wire
- Connect trailer white ground wire to Autowbrake white wire
- Connect left trailer brake wire to Autowbrake green wire
- Connect right trailer brake wire to Autowbrake yellow wire
We always recommend having lights on while towing for safety reasons.
- Calibration is required the first time you install your Autowbrake, or when relocating your Autowbrake to a different position or location on your trailer/ or moving to a different trailer.
- Connect trailer to tow vehicle and plug in connections.
- Be sure to calibrate on a level driveway or parking lot, because this allows Autowbrake to determine what the common towing position will be.
- It is determining a new level relative to the tow vehicle
- Safety note: Choke tires and only turn vehicle ignition to ignition on position, no need to start tow vehicle and leave it running.
Two Person Calibration Process
Have one person get in the vehicle and press the brake pedal (turn vehicle ignition to on position and trailer harness plugged into tow vehicle). Have them continue to hold brake pedal down. While the brake pedal is depressed, have the other person go back to Autowbrake and depress both buttons at the same time for 2 to 4 seconds then release. Once the LED tops flashing you can release the brake. Your Autowbrake is calibrated.
- Press gain button for 2 to 4 seconds. Flash settings:
- Setting 1: 1 slow flash 3 times in a row
- Setting 2: 2 slow flash 3 times in a row
- Setting 3: 3 slow flash 3 times in a row
To change the power settings have one person press vehicle brake pedal. Other person presses the gain button for 2 to 4 seconds to change settings. The Autowbrake LED light will flash showing you the setting. (Flash counts above)
